Our Approach

The project brings together a large body of knowledge around the key socio-economic and environmental dimensions of agricultural intensification and strengthens the methodologies for how these can be quantified across a variety of empirical settings. We make use of detailed data on household agricultural production activities, crop suitability, livestock production systems, land cover, and other key socio-economic data and combine them with state-of-the-art analytical tools and models. By doing so, we are able to capture complex synergies and tradeoffs associated with sustainable intensification on a short- to medium-term horizon, and at a variety of scales (from landscape to regional).
