BioSight Participating in Farming Systems Design Symposium

Biosight team members attended the 5th International Symposium for Farming Systems Design. At the Symposium we presented our work-in-progress related to the design and application of a bioeconomic model to agricultural household systems in Malawi. The Symposium provided an opportunity to share ideas, meet new and old colleagues, and keep up to date with developments in the profession.  Although delegates had different perspectives, there appeared a broad consensus to use case studies to highlight principles and put the case studies into a consistent story. A focus here was that models are the tool used to answer research questions, with framing the research question being essential. Delegates also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of attempting to building generic bioeconomic models, and attempting to link models across multiple scales.
